When I sent this newsletter edition last month, I used the word steal a lot.My mom called me confused as to why I steal ads.She was worried I was plagiarizing or literally taking footage from other companies.I had to explain that I wasn't ripping footage from other brands but just learning from other people.

The great Van Gogh once said, "Good artists borrow, great artists steal."

The curation of tastes and styles is what makes someone a great artist.

This week I curated 11 ads that you can draw inspiration from and even steal (sorry, mom).

Emails can't have videos, so click the button to reference the ads.

Seriously click because this newsletter will mean nothing without watching the ads.

1. William Painter

This is an EXTREME hook, but I am here for it.They want to show durability, so they put their socks to the ultimate test.

What unique ways can you show off your product that isn't the usual everyday scenario to capture the audience's attention?

2. Velour Lashes

I love the pacing of this ad.I get a lot in just 15 seconds, starting with a great question to hook the viewer.Beyond talking about the product, this video is a great video to emulate for editing.

There are lots of great jump cuts that also show off the product in use.

3. Clevr Blends

Show, don't tell.

Instead of saying how easy this drink is to make, they show you.

Seeing the drink get made makes you want to watch till the end.

If you have a product that has a process or is part of a routine, this format is a great way to get people to stay engaged with your ads.

The easiest way to get winning ad creative.

What holds most brands from testing creative is making the ads themselves. If you have a small budget, you can't hire many people to create for you.

That's where Pencil comes in.

Pencil helps brands grow by automating creative production for experimentation at scale

Just input your branding and assets, then give Pencil a topic. It'll write copy, edit video and generate finished ad ideas in ~1 minute.

4. Poly & Bark

Wait - who said you can't make pretty ads?

If you are selling a high-end item like a nice couch, you need your ads to match that quality.

But this ad isn't just shot well in a studio; the editing is perfect for online and grabs your attention to want to learn more.

5. Castlery

Another furniture ad that I just vibe with.

I like the text design that stands out and is a little different than most ads.Goodo Studios has been upping our text game specifically when it comes to the ads we are making with clients.

How can you use text design in your ads?

6. Hismile

Can you show progress or imporvement to hook your viewer? This comparison hook SELLS me on these strips immediately.

Everything after that is educational and social proof to back up the strips.

7. Olipop

This ad gives you the information you need to know about the product but that simple pour is SO satisfying.

I love complex edits, but sometimes it is the simple things that can win.

Make sure that in your edits that you don't make it so complicated, a viewer can't read the text or understand what is happening.

8. RAREFORM

Multiple SKUs? Use that as a hook like this ad.

The main product feature is the fact that this bag is made from recycled billboards (pretty cool) and they tell you that immediately.

What is that one unique feature that you have in your product?

Get to the unique point quickly to engage the viewer on a deeper level other than just a cool visual hook.

9. Culprit

This script writing is hilarious but also sells.

I know this is not an ad for everyone, myself included, but I know the type of person who would wear this product and this ad is EXACTLY for them.

I honestly think more brands should invest in a campaign like this.

Focus on script writing and doing high-end production.

It doesn't have to be funny all the time, but I think it adds a level of brand that most ads don't have.

10. Our Place

Buying online can still be hard for most consumers, but having a video straight from the founder can build trust. Also, telling the founder's story can help explain the product design without it feeling like a direct response ad.

You don't need high-end production like this ad to get your founder in front of the camera talking about the company and product.

11. Cadence

Compare and contrast is always such a winning formula.

I like that this ad showed two product features to compare: storage and packing. If your product is designed in a way that is different than the norm, show that side by side so consumers can see the difference.Again, show, don't tell.

Which one was your favorite ad? Reply and let me know! Thanks again to my friends at Pencil for sponsoring this newsletter and making dreams come true.Go out and start making those ads.

Keep creating!
