You don't need to 10x your growth... just improve by 1% today

I just finished reading Atomic Habits by James Clear for the second time and rereading it helped me go deeper into James Clear's teachings.

The central thesis of James Clear's work is that compound interest is so powerful, and if we focus on small habit changes that help us improve just 1% better every day, we can grow so much in just one year. 37 times better, to be exact.

Think about wanting to double your quality of work or revenue. That seems crazy and far-fetched. A lot of people look at change and growth with significant percentages.

James Clear wants you to focus on just 1% today.

1% is doable!

Small tiny habits can make a big difference in our day, week, year, and life.

The hardest part about starting these new habits is that we don't see the reward right away, making quitting easy.

Most people quit creating habits or their new year's resolutions because they don't have a system that works for them.

Winners and losers have the same goals, but the winners have a system to succeed.

Every brand wants to do well in their marketing and might have the same goals to drive revenue, but the brand with a system to help them be consistent will be the difference.

I want us to focus on what is that 1% that you can improve on today?

I like to give lots of suggestions and advice about content creation on this newsletter, but maybe most of what I say is too overwhelming for most reading this newsletter.

Instead of creating more chaos in your working life, let's take a moment and look at your content.

How could we make an image or video just 1% better?

Build your content creation system

Most brands don't have a system of creation.

Brands are reactive when running low on content or don't post because it is not a "top priority."

Creating content is PROVEN to help brands to succeed.

Think about the winners. They create content.

You should too, but only if you set up a system.

What is better, posting every day for one month and then casually for the rest of the year or posting twice a week for a whole year?

The first option gives you 30 posts and radio silence for 11 months.

The second option gives you at least 104 posts, consistent communication with customers, and a better chance for your content to improve and build an audience.

I am going with option two, and should you.

The reason people fail to create habits is that they take big steps instead of baby steps.

How can you post every day if you have never posted at all?

You need to gather as a team and company and be honest with what you can produce. Maybe you need help creating the content, but set realistic expectations on what is attainable to develop consistently.

From there, make the steps smaller and figure out who is in charge of each action to make sure the system is set up and running.

The quality will improve over time; focus on showing up first.

Less is more, especially when you can become consistent over a year.

Upgrade your content

Get in the habit of creating - don't worry about quality. Once you and your team have successfully produced content consistently, then start to ask the question, how can I improve my content by 1%?

The best place to start is by looking at data.

Let's take a video as an example.

On TikTok, you can look at the analytics and see the average view duration.

If your video is 20 seconds long but most people are only watching for 5 seconds, that means something is not clicking after 5 seconds that they move on.

Watch the video back and be honest with yourself. What is the video missing? Again, think about a minor tweak that you can create that will create a 1% difference.

Make a new video.

Then look at the analytics and examine.

Keep tweaking and testing.

Your content will improve, but once you start finding success, don't stop analyzing. The secret ingredient will be to find how you can continue to build upon speaking your message and content.
